What's that you're eating there?

I had my nutrition assessment this week and it was really great. Not like I'm eating like a saint or anything, but the experience and info was good. The nutritionist recommended a book to me that I plan on reading very soon and I thought several of you might be interested in. It's called

Eating Mindfully: How to End Mindless Eating and Enjoy a Balanced Relationship with Food by Susan Albers

It looks really good and it's short and small. Not a novel by any means. Enjoy!

Oh MY, Mr. Darcy!

Well, the reason I finished the previous book so quickly, was because this one was next on the list. If you read my regular posts, you would have discovered that I won a couple of autographed books. The first of which, Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, I have already read. The second, Darcy and Elizabeth, I have not, and it is the next book in the series. I just started it last night and after 6 chapters I have to say that so far it is living up to the previous versions reputation. Fun and ..... 'racey restraint', would be good terms to describe it. And well, it's always good when you imagine Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. That just makes the whole book even better. ;)

The number one ladies are Ok.

I just finished reading Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

Pretty good. Sweet. Easy read. Not a big brain drain or anything, but not really compelling enough for me to want to keep reading the series. There are too many other books on my must read list for me to get lost in another series.

Finally.....and Next

Ahhhh. Guess what? You'll never believe it! I finished a book! Of course, it's part of a series, so I'm not really done with the story. But hey, it's a start. Last night I finished Lost in a Good Book, by Jasper Fjord. Awesome, and of course, it leads right into the next book, The Well of Lost Plots. But I have this stack of books that I bought after I graduated....so I have to read at least some of them before I go out and buy another book. I should just be happy in the fact that I don't have to wait a year or more for the next book in this series to come out. TYVMJKR! Hehe. So now if I can just find time to listen to the rest of Wicked, I'll be done with both books that I've been reading. But of course I'll have started a new one before that! Have a great day!

Finishing a book always brings with it several emotions. There is the satisfaction of completing the book, knowing how the story ends, and accomplishing a goal you set out for yourself. But along with good stories comes the let down of not reading it anymore. For several weeks, or days, whatever your speed, you had that 'I wonder what happens next' suspense with you every time you sat down to read. Now you are left with nothing. You know what happened next - you read it - and now you're done. But, the very next thought is the best pick-me-up ever (when it comes to reading, that is). You get to start a whole new book! With a new story, new characters. You can completely change styles of books, topics. Which is what I've just done. (nice lead in, don't cha think?)

I just started last night (about 20 minutes after I finished 'Idiot's') a book that we've had since 11/6/04. Yes, it was a wedding gift. It still had the card from the people who gave it to us stuck inside for thank you card identification purposes. It's a complete change from the last book.

It's called, I Isaac, take thee Rebekah, by Ravi K. Zacharias. It's about christian marriage and all kinds of good stuff. I just got into the first chapter a bit last night which is mostly about Isaac and Rebekah. Very good so far. I'll keep you posted.

[For those of you who gave us/me books for our wedding, who might be reading this blog, do not despair. We read The Five Languages of Love quite some time ago. I've actually read through it twice. And we're working on the rest of them. We love books, we just don't have that much time to read.]

Laurie is 'da bomb'!

I just finished up Idiot's Guide last night. Good stuff to read to put you in a good mood. No matter how you're feeling, just reading about her crazy exploits and rantings makes me laugh out loud on every chapter. And you never forget where you were in 'the story' because each chapter is it's own story. Now, there is some carry over about certain events, so I do recommend reading it front to back. But as I can testify, you don't have to read the books in order at all. Great book. Highly recommended for making you laugh out loud. Easy to squeeze in a few chapters at a time.

Laughing Out Loud with Idiots

Just started a new book Monday. It's actually the first book from this author, but I have read her later stuff. Laurie Notaro is hilarious! The book I just started is called The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club.
Lots of short chapters about her life and the crazy, normal, simple and hilarious things that she does/happen to her. Definitely a good read to make you laugh out loud. I'm not even half done yet!

The Year of Yes, by Maria Dahvana Headley

Saw it on the Today show this morning. Basically, this woman said yes to anyone who asked her out on a date all year long. Dates ranged from rock stars to a homeless guy, although I think the date with the homeless guy HAD to be more interesting. Anyhow, it looks like an interesting read. True story. Maybe i'll get to it in 2010 or something.

The Dragon Story Will Continue...

I finished Eragon this morning (see previous dragon post). It was good. Once the author educated you on all of the little details and wars, and who people were, etc....it really picked up. But for the first in a trilogy, you know that there's going to be a lot of backstory to deal with. It was easy to read and entertaining. I'm looking forward to reading the next book - Eldest, but it's just going to be added to the list. I've got plenty of other books I need to read before I get back to that series. At least I don't have to wait though. Eldest is already out and I think even in paperback, I'm not sure though. So, if you liked Tolkien and you like fantasy this is a good read. Keep in mind it was written by a 15 yr old, but you barely notice it. I recommend this one.

I just read about this one today on one of the blogs I visit daily. It's called, Lord, Please Meet Me in the Laundry Room, by Barbara Curtis. Looks really interesting and thoughtful. Not supposed to just be a how-to book, but a lot more.... You can go to Amy's Humble Musings and read her review on it.

Dragon's are fun.

I am currently slowly reading Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. I'm not reading slowly because the book is difficult, hardly, the book is young adult. It's just I have to make myself sit down and read it instead of tidy, work on the computer or watch tv. I'm getting there though, and it's pretty good so far, especially if you like Tolkien and dragons. Good, easy read.
